Humble Origin
Piotr Rasputin was born in the Ust-Ordynski Collective Farm in Siberia. Always large, even as a child, Piotr quickly began to idolize his older brother, Mikhail. Piotr couldn't have been prouder of his brother when Mikhail was selected to join the Russian Cosmonaut program; or more devastated when Mikhail was killed in a shuttle accident. Piotr became slightly reclusive after Mikhail's death, spending his free time on the farm alone and practicing his drawing. His solitary nature was shattered, though, with the birth of his sister, Illyana. Piotr quickly threw himself into the role of the doting older brother, wanting to be as good a brother to Illyana as Mikhail was to him.
As the years went on, Piotr grew to be a tall, strong man. His strength was legendary among the farmers, and Piotr was always happy to help his friends and neighbors. Piotr also kept up with his artistic skills, spending time near Lake Baikal sketching the scenery or the tourists. And so, Piotr though his fate would be to remain on the farm, taking over when his father grew too old. But one day, a tractor ran out of control, heading towards Illyana, who was playing in the fields. Without thinking, Piotr ran to try and get Illyana out of the way, but the tractor was to close for them to escape. With the tractor about to run over them, Piotr's metahuman power activated, turning him into a metal colossus that smashed the tractor aside.
New Opportunity
While amazed and frightened at first, the farmers knew that Piotr was a good man. And the assistance he could lend with his new-found power eased their minds considerably. Life at the Collective returned to it's normal pace. And then the stranger from America appeared. Charles Xavier had detected Piotr's awakening using the Cerebro system at his Institute. Xavier offered Piotr a chance to come to the Institute in New York, not only to refine his metahuman power, but to receive an education that Piotr would ever be able to afford otherwise. And so, Piotr accepted the offer, becoming one of the Xavier Institute's newest student.
