Born and raised just outside of a small town in Eastern Nebraska, Brooklyn is the 2nd of 4 children and the only girl. She grew up on a farm but attended school in the city, so she did have plenty of friends and even a limited social life growing up. She grew up a tomboy and quite used to working on the farm and getting dirty. She discovered an affinity for the water when she was very little. Then, when the Spectre lifted the curse on the world, that affinity turned into something greater.
Brook wound up getting a scholarship to the Xavier school, where she learned to hone her new powers. It took her a little while to get used to them, but now she's graduated and has moved on to bigger and (hopefully) better things. She's now moved to Metropolis for school and to break out on her own.
Blood's Thicker
Brook is super close with her family, and would do absolutely anything for them. Except give away her super powers. Of the 5 other people in her immediate family, only Child #3, Matthew, knows that she has abilities. But she hasn't told him all she can do, and he knows better than to ask. But if anything ever threatened her family, you'd be hard pressed to find a force on earth that would stop her from trying to protect them.
Loyal
Where Brook comes from, your friends are like your extended family. So, you treat them how you want to be treated. And you stick up for them, go to bat for them, and expect them to do the same for you. Doesn't matter where you are, your friends are your family when you're family's not around. So Brook is definitely a loyal friend who will follow her friends into the thick of it without being asked to do so.
Country Strong
Okay, so lets get one thing straight. Being from a farm in Nebraska does NOT make Brook a 'hick.' She doesn't have an accent, she had running water and electricity. You would be totally jelly if you saw her Farmville. But, growing up on a farm did instill her with certain traits that come along with that lifestyle. You work hard every day and you pull your own weight. If you want to eat, you've got to do your share. Also, work early, work often, so that when the workin's done, you've got plenty of time to play. So work hard, play hard. She also happens to be: a morning person.
Tender Heart
While Brook is definitely a Tomboy in personality, she's definitely a girl on the inside. Small animals will cause her to coo and fawn. Love stories will make her cry. Romance may make her swoon, she hasn't really had much experience in that department yet. While she's not the type to put on makeup or paint her nails, she's definitely still a softie on the inside.
Tell the Truth
Even if it hurts. Brook grew up in a house where you were just honest. You didn't go out of your way to be mean or derogatory towards people. Normally, if you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all. But, if somebody asks for your opinion, give it to them. And if you think something is wrong, you need to stand up for what you think is right. If you don't say something, you're just as wrong as the other person. And while Brook isn't naieve enough to believe nobody's gonna lie to her, she will normally give a person the benefit of the doubt.
Motivation
Brook wants to be a force for good in the world. She believes she's got special talents, and since God gave them to her, He expects her to use them to help other people. And while she's not a Christian zealot by any means, she's from a Christian background. Plus, her daddy always taught her to be all the she could be. So she wants to make him proud, even if he can't know it's her.
Goals
Setting priorities isn't one of Brook's strong points. But, she does know what she wants to do. She wants to, a.) Get a college degree. Her parents just expect that of her, and she expects it of herself, so that's why she's continuing her education in Metropolis. b.) Fight the good fight. She's got super powers, and she knows how to use them. With all the changes that are going on in the world today, she's got an opportunity to help out. So, she's going to pitch in where ever she can to try and do just that. c.) Explore the world! Not necessarily by travelling all over. But she's seen so much through the lens of her camera that really fascinates her, so she wants to see more. She wants to see people, places, buildings, all of it. And she wants to write about it in her blog, so other people can see what she's seen and draw off of her experiences. These are the three things at the top of her list, right now.
Aquakinesis
Brook has the ability to control liquid with her mind. This can be pretty much any liquid within 50m of her. She can lift it, bend it, spin it, or use it for her other powers. However, there are limitiations. The liquid /must/ be liquid enough for her to gain control of it. It must have a viscosity close to that of water for her to be able to control. She also is not able to transport liquids osmotically, so that coke in your bottle is safe. Also, funny quirk? Oil and water don't mix, and neither can she. Anything with a significant oil base is off-limits, and she can't do anything with oil. She doesn't need to be able to see the liquids to control it, but she does need to concentrate.
Firehose
Brook is able to spray water at incredibly high pressure. However, the amount of force she's able to put behind the spray is inversely related to the size of that spray; ie, the bigger the spout, the weaker its power. If she gets down to do needlework, she can be as deadly as a waterjet (100,000 PSI). However, as soon as you start getting bigger than that, the power drops significantly. A typical "full stream" from her is about 5000 PSI in a baseball diameter stream. She can keep this up for several minutes easily, but anything longer than that can start to wear her down.
Waveriding
Brook can create a wave to 'ride' on up to 10m in height. It works a lot like Iceman's ice sled, except it just leaves a wake of wetness behind her instead of a solid bridge. Also, the wave must push off of a solid surface, so she can't fly or navigate around obstacles like Iceman can. She also has to use her hands to help keep herself balanced at the top of the wave, so her ability to fight while moving is limited. This form of motion lets her move up to about 30 mph, which is faster than running, but not going to win her any races against most other heroes.
SWIM!
One of the neat side effects Brook has found from her aquakinesis is that she can swim fast. Terribly fast. She's come pretty close to hitting the sound barrier underwater, and she's incredibly agile in the water even at top speed. She simply has to think about changing direction and she can. Unfortunately, this ability isn't likely to win her many battles. But, it's handy to have just in case!
Underwater Breathing
The power that started it all. Just like it says, Brook can simply pull the oxygen she needs out of the water and breath normally.
Water Armor
Brook can use water as armor in one of two ways. 1.) She can cover herself fully, or just partially, in a layer of super-dense water the strength of concrete. This can get chipped, blasted, and otherwise busted, which she then has to regenerate- which takes a few seconds and some focus. Or 2.) she can bunch the water in her body to make one area much tougher than usual for a limited time. This second power basically helps protect her from bumps and bruises if she's being hit or falling, or if she wants to punch something that might be a little dangerous. This second power activates as more of a reflex- like a normal person might wince if they're expecting pain, she'll pool the water. She can't do /both/, though, it's either one or the other, and it takes time for her to switch.
Pur Filter
Brook can take out contaminants in water. Not out of other liquids, necessarily, but anything that's supposed to be H2O, she can cleanse. She doesn't it automatically if it's something she's drinking (her mouth just does it), or she can do it by putting a portion of her body into the target. The larger the body of liquid needing to be cleaned, the more of herself she has to put into it. This makes it kinda hard to poison her by liquid substances, since her body naturally combats them. However, it also filters out alcohol, so she can't get drunk, and adversly affects liquid medicines, making them much less effective in treating illness for her, as well!
(De)Hydration
Brook doesn't need to drink to survive. Since she can just consciously generate water at will, she doesn't get thirsty anymore as her body just naturally replenishes her supply. However, after several days of not taking in any external liquids, her ability to use her other powers will start to lessen. If she's in the middle of the desert for a month, then she's not going to be able to do anything but stay alive. Likewise, it's always 'easier' on Brook to use liquids that are already in the area than to just generate her own. If she's creating all of the water she's using in her attacks, her stamina limits are right around 30 minutes at this point. After that, she just gets too worn out and can't continue fighting. This includes time spent wave-riding.
Dowsing
Another side effect of Brook's aquakinesis is her ability to sense any body of liquid of sufficient size. This is probably her least refined skill. But, it does help her with a sense of direction, because the larger the body of water, the more she can sense where it's at. Living on the East Coast, she can pretty much always tell which direction is East, as the Atlatnic Ocean is almost always a faint beacon on her radar. She can also get a general sense of there is a person within 5 meters of her, since our bodies are 98 water. However, if there is more than one person in a group, she can't tell individuals apart at all, nor how many individuals are there.
Perfect Pitch
While she's not going to win any awards with her voice, Brook can sing pretty well. Along with that, she has perfect pitch and pitch recall. So, if she hears a tone, she can identify what note it is, or identify it if she hears it again, or tell the difference between two tones. Also, if she hears it once, she can almost always sing it right back to you. She does have to be focusing and paying attention for this, though, and she has to concentrate to remember it for anything more than a couple minutes.
Xavier Institute
Brook is an Xavier Graduate, so she can call the Mansion if she's in trouble. It doesn't mean they're going to send in the cavalry if she gets in over her head. But, if she is in trouble and needs some place for refuge, or if she needs letters of reference, she's got a pretty sterling contact on her speed dial.
Work Ethic
While it might not seem like an advantage to some, Brooklyn grew up knowing how to work hard. So, hard work doesn't bother her. She doesn't mind putting in a lot of effort into anything she feels is worth doing. She just expects to work hard at things. Also, she's an early-to-bed, early-to-rise kind of girl, so she can get the day started and get to work.
American Teenager
This is a catchall for the skills that your average American teenager would have. She can drive; not NASCAR or F1, but enough to get around the streets. She's computer and internet savvy enough to know how to google search. She's got a cellphone and can text one-handed without looking at her keypad. She can cook for herself, clean her room, and otherwise survive the typical daily chores of life.
Combat
The Xavier Institute required that she learn basic self-defense techniques; some very basic judo and karate. But she is not going to win a fistfight with anyone who's had specific training in that area. Instead, she has learned to rely on her powers in combat, and has practiced using them in the most efficient way possible. She can probably hold her own against one or two opponents, but much more than that is going to be beyond her.
Singing
Brook was always in choir and has always had a natural affinity for singing. She's good, but not great; she could probably front a band, but she'd never thrive as a solo artist. However, she's got years of practice reading vocal music and singing in front of people, so stage fright and new music won't bother her at all. And while she definitely loves country, she can also sing rock just as well.
Farm Life
Growing up on a farm, Brook had a lot of daily chores. In doing those chores, she learned a lot of general skills. If something in the house breaks- pipes or furniture- she can probably fix it herself. She can definitely work on a car if she has to. She also knows how to drive a tractor, detassle corn, feed the chickens and milk a cow.
BAT Training
No, not the legendary Dark Knight. Basic Aid Training. It was offered at Xavier's school and was a requirement for being a lifeguard back home. Brook is certified for both CPR and BAT.
Photography
Brook became quite the shutterbug during high school. She loves to take photos and has taken enough of them that it's gone from being a hobby to something she's actually getting pretty good at. While she's not a professional, yet, she's definitely on her way there. That's part of what she wants to learn in college.
Journalism(ing?)
Brooklyn has always liked reading the news and articles about things. She discovered blogging during high school and loved it, as well. However, for security reasons, she wasn't allowed to blog publicly while she was at the school. Now, though, those restrictions are rescinded, so she intends to start her own blog and write about … well, she's not sure, but she's going to write about something! She took journalism in high school and is planning on majoring in it in college, so she'll only get better as time goes on.
Claustrophobia
Much like water naturally wants to flow, Brook /hates/ being confined. Elevators, she can handle alright. But you start getting smaller than that, and she starts to have problems. This also includes being bound or blindfolded. Handcuffs, she could handle. But keeping her from moving her arms or legs? She'll start to deteriorate fairly quickly.
Young
Brooklyn is only 19, going on 20 years old. She's not old enough to buy alcohol, nor has she been using her powers for long enough to be an all-star with them. She's also just getting out of high school and just getting out into the world. This will be her first time living on her own, being completely responsible for herself. She doesn't know all about how the "real world" works, nor does she have a great wealth of life experience to go on.
Homesick
Brook misses her family tons. So, she calls them at /least/ once a day. If she could afford it, she'd also go back to visit more often. But if she isn't able to talk to her family, especially her brother, at least once a day, she can start to get pretty depressed, pretty quickly.
Stamina
Brook is still growing into her powers. As such, they're certainly not at their peak potency. She also has only been using them for a few years. Just like with athletics, you have to train to get better. So Brook is, with her powers. If she's in a hard-pressed fight, she can get winded after 10 or 15 minutes. After 30, she'll be worn out and not able to do much but defend herself. Press her any longer, and she runs the risk of passing out from fatigue. Her endurance will get better as time goes on, but right now it needs work.
Small Town Girl
Brooklyn grew up in a town with less than 10,000 people in it. Metropolis is ZOMGinormous. It's daunting! It's even a little bit scary! Even the Xavier Institute was tucked away in a quiet area. Brook's definitely not going to be used to the noise or the bustle of the big city, and it will probably be overwhelming for a while as she tries to settle in and get used to it. Also, where she comes from, people are just /nice/ to other people. Strangers will stop and help you load your groceries without stealing from you or expecting a tip. In her home town, you didn't even need to lock your front door most of the day, because if anybody was going to come in, they were going to be friendly. Brooklyn doesn't know what people in the Big City will be like, but she's ready to find out!
Definitely NOT Elsa
While Brook's power involves the manipulation of water, there is one big stipulation to that: the water can't be frozen. Once it's frozen, Brook's worthless. Even if you smash it into itty-bitty chips or a fine powdery slush, she still can't do anything with it. The reason is that frozen water has stopped flowing, which stops her from being able to do anything with it. This also means she's decidedly less effective during blizzards and snowstorms, and really winter in general, since the temperatures tend to be lower. If the temperature outside drops below 32 degrees F (or 0 degrees C), Brook has a much more difficult time manifesting water. If it drops to zero or below, she'll be hard presse to manifest anything. She could still control water that's present, as long as it's not frozen. But, she's not gonna be generating any water outside of her person at those temps. This also means that using cold attacks against her is highly effective. Her attacks can be frozen and rendered inert, and the water shield she encases herself in can likewise be frozen and shattered. She's also just more susceptible to cold attacks and has a much harder time trying to defend herself against them.
Oil and Water (and Other Stuff)
Heard the saying oil and water don't mix? Well, that goes double for Brook. While she can manipulate most water-based liquids, she can NOT do anything with oil or oil-based products. She can't clean it, separate it, or otherwise budge it even an inch with her powers. Vegetable oil, corn oil, petroleum, none of it. This also goes for other pure liquids, like liquid nitrogen, liquid helium (can you have that?), or any other 'liquid' form of a non-water based compound.
Pretty much non-existent at this point. Her former classmates at Xavier's would know her as a goofy, loud tomboy that sang all the time and was pretty fun to be around. But, outside of school, she's completely irrelevant at this point.
